Join the legendary battles of Asgard
The introduction of Ragnarok reveals the plot to accompany the theme; a legend that at the end of days the gods will take part in three mighty battles. These battles are introduced to the sound of heavily dramatic film style music as being ‘Odin vs Penrir’, ‘Freyr vs Surtr’ and ‘Thor vs Jormungandr’. It’s described as a ‘multilevel game’ in which you must collect runes in order to unlock these mighty battles. These runes come in the form of tokens which look like rubies and are collected in a panel to the right of the reels. Once you have between 15 and 30 runs and land three of the Yggdrasil Tree of Life wilds, you activate the mighty battles.
Dark Nordic styling of Asgard
The styling of the game is as dark and dramatic as the plot and the music, with a stoney backdrop and Nordic style gold lettering. The symbols consist of portraits of the Gods themselves, along with historical symbols such as ancient numbers and letters. The wild is an ornate gold symbol on a blue background and can substitute any of the other symbols except the scatter, which is a gold tree, also known as an Yggdrasil, an ancient mythical symbol said by Norse mythology to connect the nine worlds.
The technicalities
Before you begin playing, you can adjust both the number of bet lines and the coins you want to wager, which range from 0.01 to 2. There is also an autoplay option if you prefer to sit back and wait for the progression to the next level. As you unlock each ‘mighty battle’ you are rewarded, for example when you enter ‘Thor’ your wins are multiplied x2 and you receive 10 free spins.
Then, as you reach the ‘Freyr’ feature somewhere around level 11, you can pick from 3 of 5 targets, each revealing its own prize such as free spins or a multiplier. Surtr is basically Nordic for Satan, and you get to take him on as Freyr, slashing with your sword. As promised, the more you play the greater your rewards so this is a game worth investing some time in. In theory, this game has a very solid RTP (return to player) rate of 97%.
Features
Each of the levels is accompanied by some additional animated graphics, e.g when you reach ‘Thor’ he appears on a cliff ledge with his hammer and a huge blue dragons emerges from behind the reels. This game is not for the faint of heart, and if you’re a candy and fruit slot fan you’re definitely in the wrong place.
Our favourite level is definitely the third, where Odin takes on the mighty wolf Fenrir. With Odin on his rearing horse, the almighty wolf appears from behind the reels, with blazing red eyes and the promise of some added bonuses such as free spins and multipliers.

While the dark mythological theme might not be to every player's taste, we’re impressed with the format of this slot; keeping players hooked by progressing you to new levels and features throughout the game. The graphics, while being artistically high quality are not quite as modern and advanced in their animation as you might find in other video slots, but this does not take away from the well-designed theme, which is a great combination of design, plot, play experience and music.
