A woman is facing charges of lottery scamming in Jamaica after officials found she had hidden bank cards inside a shoe. She was arrested at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay on Monday this week.

The 24-year-old culprit, Selina Anderson, had hidden two bank cards inside a shoe within a package. Police apprehended her when she went to collect the item from the customs cargo area of the airport. The Lottery Scam Task Force then initiated a consultation to begin their investigation into the matter.

In a lottery scam, the scammer will contact the victim via email, phone, or mail telling them they have won a prize in a lottery. After contacting the agent to collect their prize, the victim will have to pay processing fees to secure their fake winnings or provide sensitive information.

In a raid on Anderson’s home, police found a mobile phone that had sensitive documents related to persons residing overseas. This included identification, banking, and credit card information.

Authorities have not yet set a court date for Anderson, but they have charged her with breaching the Law Reform Act.
