If there is one thing Rabcat do very well, it is creating slots with that extra bit of ‘cute’ in them. Scary Friends continues this theme in a very Monsters Inc. sort of a way. The game is ‘hosted’ by a very friendly looking hairy monster, which stands to the left of the reels petting a smaller creature which is a fur ball with eyes. Beneath the reels are even more of these fur balls. They dance, jump and play when you get wins on the reels. The 3D graphics are excellent, with the large monster to the left of the reels the highlight of these. It will behave differently depending on the size of your win. Examples include throwing the pet fur ball in the air and catching it, and a wide open mouth celebration for bigger wins. The symbols on the reels have a flatter design, there are 4 types of monsters, and elaborate playing card symbols which become animated when included in a win-line. Sounds include cutesy monster type noises, beeps and computer noises and happy jazz type music when you hit a win. I have to warn you that the monster noises continue between spins, which can be disconcerting if you leave your computer for a while and return to them.

Classic 5 Reel Setup

The free spins symbol shows one of the fur ball monsters with bug eyes, while the bonus symbol is divided into 4 and shows one of each of the other monsters.
Scary Friends Bonus Features
If you get 3+ free spins symbols the background of the reels changes. A set of scales with a computer monitor appears, and one of the fur balls bounces on it. The number of bounces shows how many free spins you’ll get. These are fast, and your total (together with the total you get from the spin which triggered these) is displayed on a separate bridging screen at the end.
The other bonus requires 3+ of the bonus symbols. This is a pick-em game which involves choosing one of the 4 monsters in a spinning device. As this spins faster, each of the monsters is thrown off in turn – complete with animation of them flying off of the screen. There is a leader board with 4th to 1st shown. You’ll get a cash prize depending on where your monster ends up on this.
This Slot Is Nothing To Be Scared Of
The 3D animations around the reels are worth checking out on their own. The main monster is beautifully created. The fur balls are a little distracting, though they do add some extra humour to the game. A good example is the one who rolls off of the screen, only to peep over the top of the reels a few seconds later.
Having two bonus games is certainly a plus. The pick-em ‘spinner’ game is amusing enough, though really you are just choosing one of 4 monsters. Free spins have a quirky introduction, though the game itself is just a straight forward (and pretty fast) spin of the reels.
